Today in Mr. Shicks class we went over many different vocabulary terms today. The first term we learned was agora. This is a public area for assemblies and markets. The second term we learned was polis. this is a city state in ancient greece especially as considered in its ideal form for philosophical purposes. the third term is how the year of 508 bc was important to the ancient greece people. This is the year that greece established a democracy. Next we learned about Socrates. He was a greek philosopher and was the father of western philosophy. He was also a stonemason when he was young and also fought in the peloponisain war. Next we learned about the death of Socrates. Socrates was put on trail for corrupting the young and refusing to recognize the gods of the state. He was found guilty and sentenced to death buy poison. Last by not least is socratic method. This states  that using common sense of our day offers us the greatest potential for self understanding and human excellence.
