Today we watched a video on global health and Hans Rosling was the teacher of the video. He created a virtual graph where the y axis was life expectancy (years 25-75) and the x axis was income (dollars 400-40,000). He showed us the year 1810 on the graph and All the countries in the world were in the poor and sick part of the graph. As time went on countries started to industrialize themselves and more and more countries moved towards the rich and healthy part of the graph. By 1980 almost all countries had moved out of the poor and sick part of the graph and had moved to the rich and healthy part of the graph. This was what we did today in human geo

Today in human geo we watched a Ted talk. The Ted talk video was about population pyramids and it covered a lot of stuff. First off a population pyramid is a chart that tracks a countries male and female population. It also tracks birth rates death rates and can predict a countries future population pretty accurately. We talked about Demographic transition today and thats when a country starts out as a pre industrial society , then moves to and industrial society, and lats moves to a post industrial society. This changes many things about people. When a country changes to an industrial society its changes its population a lot. Life expectancy goes up because The people working in the factories get health care. Then child mortality rates goes down because not as many kids are dyeing because they are healthier.

Today we have got our tests back before thanksgiving break. I didn't do as well as I expected and was a little disappointed in myself for it but its okay. I will have other opportunities and I will use those to bring my grade back. Other than that we talked about the extra credit project. I did the ten point project because at this point i could use as many points as I can get. Mr. Shick told use that not alot of people had donated a loan this year compared to last year. Other than that we didnt do much today in Human Geo but I bet we will start a new chapter soon.

extra credit

Kiva is a site where you can loan money to someone who needs it to help them start a new life. When you send this person a loan they will [ay it pack when they make money off of the loan that you gave them. I think that this is a very smart idea and that this is a very efficient way to help those who need your help. Kiva has been given a 4 star rating and helps 84 different countries and the people in them. About 1.7 million people have made a loan on Kiva and the loan repayment rate is 97.1%. How does Kiva work? First you choose a category such as woman, agriculture, health care , education, etc. Then you choose a borrower and loan them money and in time you will get money back when they make a profit off your loan. This is very high which shows that this is a trusted site and not a scam. The Kawoural group is a bunch of woman who are asking for 2050 dollars so that they can raise sheep. The mother of the group  is aged 46, married and a mother of 6 children aged from 16 to ...

Today we had a test. I think that I did very well and that it will help bring up my human geo grade. Mr.Shick hasn't put in any grades in a while and my grade isn't good right now. I cant wait to start a new chapter and have another test so that my grades can go up. Some things that were on the test were population pyramids, TFR, Life Expectancy. I hope that I did well and that I can success in Mr. Shicks class.

Today in human geo we watched one or two more presentation on the population pyramids. I particularly thought that Caroline did a very good job because she knew was she was talking about( not saying everyone else didn't) and could explain everything that she had typed. She went into detail about her organizations and i think she did a really good job. On a second note After we where done our presentations Mr. Shick told us that we were going to have a test on Monday About every thing we have gone over so far with population. This is good because I will do well on it and Ot will bring my grade up. The first part of the test will be fifteen questions with stuff from the world factbook and that portion of the test will be fifteen minutes long. After that there will be thirty different questions on population and immigration and migration.

Today in human geo we watched more presentations of our projects. There was only 2 groups who went for the B but everyone else went for the A. I thought that most of the projects were pretty good but there were a couple where Other could tell they did work very hard on and weren't ready to present. Other than that it was a normal day in human geo and i hope that my grade will go up because of my project

11/14/15

Today in human geo we presented our projects that we have done over the weekend. These projects were worth a lot of points because we had to do a lot of work for them. My grade in human geo is not very good right now so Im hoping that it will get better.Today we were the first group to present. I thought that we rocked it other than a couple grammer mistakes. For our project we had to think of four unique questions to ask about our population pyramids. We choose Canada and Azerbaijan. Our four questions were: Why does Azerbaijans population rise and then decrease a couple times? Does war have anything to do with Azerbijians population growth and decline? Why are there lots of people who live in Canada? What year is it estimated that Canadas population will reach 40 million? This was a small part of our presentation. I think we did very well and i hope to find out that we did.

Today in human geography we retook the pop quiz from yesterday. I still didn't get a 100 but i got and 80. I keep messing up the united states population pyramid and the Japanese population pyramid. I felt okay that i did better. The next thing that we did was out project. We got a project and you could choose project A or B. Project B the highest grade you could get was a high B and project A the hight you could get was a 100. I always strive to be the best so i went for project A. I am working with Dominic and Jimmy. These are the directions to the project. List four specific questions that population pyramids can help us answer. Use the population pyramids from two very different countries to ask, and answer, four specific questions.  Copy these pyramids into your document. Pick two of the following organizations, and give specific reasons why you think they would or would not be effective at dealing with the problem of world hunger.   http://johndaufoundati...

Today in human geo we had a pop quiz and it kinda helped but in the long run it didn't because i got a six out of ten and my average will be much higher by the time that the quarter is over. I still hate the fact that we have pop quizes or at least before the pop quiz we should have like ten to five minutes to study. Other than that we had a fire drill today which was fine but really loud.

11/9/17

Today in human geo we looked at all kinds of different population pyramids. Fort brag in North Carolina was one of them. In this city or fort there was a lot of people from 20-24 because it is a place where young people who get out of college go to serve in the military. Another one that we looked at was Michigan. There was a lot of 20-24 year old people there because they are going to college there. Most of Michigan's population is people who are going to college at Michigan. Another one is Manhatten. There were lots of 30-34 years olds. This is because most people who work in Manhatten are very good at their job and are not focused on having kids but being very good at there job. That is why the middle portion of the population pyramid is big compared to the size of the amount of the old people and the young. Those were three of the population pyramids that we looked at today.

Today in Human geo we covered what we had gone over in the last couple classes. We had watched a power point and i covered things like crude birth and death rate, total fertility rate, Migration, push and pull factors, etc. We reasserted how many movies Mr.shick was in and he was in alot of movies but most of them I had never heard of. In this class there was a big emphasis on immigration. We talked about how countries like Japan are less likely to let you immigrate into their country. We covered population pirimyed and there were three main shapes for it. These were a tree, a box, and a cup. They each describe whats happening to the population on the chart.

Today we got our tests back in human geo class. I got a 93 and i am happy. I finished the quater with a 93 in Mr. Shicks human geo class. I am going to see if i can move up to honors human geo because I did very well in Mr. Shicks class but at the same time I didn't feel like a was being challenged as much as I should be. We went over the questions on the test today and I saw what I did wrong and I will improve on the next quiz.In todays class we covered net migration. This is the number of people coming and leaving the country in a year. It is counted in the thousands.  The positive is the number of people coming in the country. The negative number is the number of the people leaving the country. We also talked about why people migrate. It is because of push and pull factors. A push factor is something that drives someone out of a country such as a war. A pull factor is something that draws someone in like free health care.
