Today in western civ we continued the powerpoint. We talked about how Cleisthenes came into power and changed their government and took one small step toward democracy.  Cleisthenes was a member of the elite and was a very crafty politician. He saw the value in using the talents of the middle-class everyday people and decided to let them have a say in things. This was the first time ever that democracy was used and it was a big step for the people of Athens. This still meant no woman and only citizens of Athens were allowed to vote. Only about 25% of the people who lived in Athens were citizens so it still wasn't really a fair vote.

Today in western cov we contined the power point on ancient greece. We talked about laws and reforms and also talked about some different tyrants and leaders of ancient greece and what happened to them. One of the reforms was the Draco. This sated that all athinean people por or rich were equal, death was the punishment for most crimes in athens, if you owed someone money and you didnt have it you would have to be their slave until you could repay your debt. A tyrant was Hippias. He ruled from 527-510 BCE and his brother was murdered by an unknown person in Athens.  this lead to him having all of the suspects and there familys murdered but on the down low. He was eventually expelled from Athens.

today in western civ we went back over some of the notes that were taken yesterday. We talked about the wars but Mr.Schick put a big emphasis on the storyteller named Homer. He was an old blind man who went from town to town tell the same to stories that he had memorized. The lliad and the Odessy. We listened to a short part of the Odessey in class and I thought that it was pretty good. We listened to the part of the book where the man is stuck on an island with a giant cyclops. The man and his crew get stuck in the cave where the monster lives because they were trying to steal his stuff. the monster eats six of his crew and then one night, the man stabs the cyclops in the eye with a giant spear and the monster is blinded. Then the man and his crew get away from the hideous beast. Overall today was just a regular day in Mr. Schick's class. PS: The Odessey is a good book in my opinion.

Today we went into greater depth involving Ancient Greece. We talked about many thing like the topographical feature of Greece, Their diet, and the types of resources that they had. Greece is a very mountainous country in fact 3/4 of the land is mountains and only 20% of the land in Greece is Arable. This makes it very hard for the Greeks to Grow enough food for the country. Because of the lack of Arable land the Greeks had to do a lot of trading with the limited resources that they had. Greece had a very mild climate. In the winter is got down to the 40's and in the summer it was in the 80's. The Greeks fought in many wars in fact they were almost always in some type of war where one country was trying to take control of the other. Their was no unity between cites in Greece. Each city Pledge to themselves and not to the country of Greece. Myths were a very important thing in Greece and each myth told a story. In theses myths the Greek would tells stories of their gods getting...

" In Athens a new form of government developed- democracy in which citizens exercise their own power." "Alexander the great spread greek culture through Asia." Those are just some of the notes that I took from the book. Here are some notes from the power point we watched. "Great civilizations/ Key rivers: Egypt/nile, India/Indus River, Mesopotamia/Tigres and Euphrates." " Greece is a very mountainous country in fact 3/4 of the country are covered in mountains." These were just some of the notes that I learned today. So far Western Civ is great.

Today was the first day of my new class called western civilization. Today the new students in my class set up there blogger account. Blogging is probably one of the most important things to do in Mr. Schicks class because by the end of the semester all of our blogs are worth about a large test.  I actually like the blogs a lot because they are our only homework(usually). To me this is a very fair but also helpful option regarding homework because when you blog it helps you remember what you have learned in that day. I cant wait to get started in Western civilization.
Today in human geo we took a test on the world leaders. I dont I did bad but at the same time I dont that I did extremely well either. I would say I got a 90% on it. I hope that I did well because if I can hold onto my grade in this class that would be awesome. So far this quarter I have done very well and I am very happy with myself. I cant wait to spend the second semester in western civ with Mr. Schick. The test covered the leader of the many countries that we covered, facts about those leaders, and it also covered facts about the countries that we went over. I hope I do well next semester in western civ.

Today in Human geo we finished up the world leaders slide. Thought this slides presentation i have learned a lot about many of the countries in the world and how their government can be very corrupt. We have a test tomorrow on the world leaders and Im a little nervous just because we haven't really gone over them that much. When we have taken tests in the past. We have had a lot more time to prepare for them and this time I just dont think we are getting enough time. Quarter two ends tomorrow and i am very happy with what I have done so far my freshman year. Im also happy that i will have mister shick for semester two. He is a great teacher and Im happy Im in his class.

today in human geo we discussed our google slides presentation on the world leaders and their countries type of government. So far we have dissuced India, Russia, Germany, and the Uk. We are taking notes on these countries because we will soon be having a test on the world leaders and we will have to match up each leader with their country. Another part of the test will be identifying each leaders specific trait or something that they have done in there time as a leader of a country.

1/3/18

Today in human geo we continued to talk about what we talked about yesterday. Mr.Shick said that we would be having a test soon. The test would be matching the world leaders with there traits. We are now doing a project that involve finding a countries leader. Then we had to find a picture of them and find a map of the country. I think that I will do okay on the test but i will ned to study a lot for it.

Today was my first day back to school from break. Today in class we talked about how a country is organized. It is organized into three things: State, country, and nation. A State is a group of people under the jurisdiction of one government, A nation is a group of people with a common culture. the more detailed definition of a nation is  groups of people, larger than a single tribe or community, which may share a common language, institution, religion, and/or historical experience.   The last thing we learned was about independant states. They are areas with a international recognized boundary.
