Today in western civ a couple people had to finish up their test and the rest of us had to fish our notes on "Democracy and Greece's golden age." I learned a lot of stuff in this little section but all the stuff on the philosopher I pretty much knew just because I learned about them in my old school. Here are some of the notes that I took.
- Pericles was a skillful politician, an inspirational speaker, and a respected general
- Pericles held on to popular support for over 32 years.
- After the defeat of the Persians, Athens helped organize the Delian league which in today's world is the United Nations but for an ancient civilization.
- Athens had an incredibly strong navy
- Pericles used the money from the Delian League to glorify Athens and make it look like an empire
- Art and Architecture were one of the biggest parts of making Athens look like an empire.
- Greeks invented Drama as an art form and wrote two types: Comedy and Tradagy.
- The Peloponnesian war was between Athens and Sparta.
- The war went on for a while but ended up in the Athenians signing a treaty.
