Today in Western Civ we finished the last minute of our crash course video about philosophy. It was a very interesting video because it really makes you think about life and the questions inside of life. some of the questions that were asked were: Do I owe anything to live? What is my purpose here? Do I live after I die; before? After that, we worked on our project. My group is doing the Trireme and so far we have started our power point. We are planning to build a model of the boat bigger then the one Mr. Schick has so that we can get a really good grade. Here are some of the facts that we have so far on our power point presentation.
- The inside of the vessel was built out of softwoods such as pine, fir, and cypress
- The triremes most effective weapon was the bronze sheathed battering ram.
- The battering ram rarely would sink the enemies ship so boarding the ship was the second way to take out their enemy
- The construction of a trireme took around 6,000 man-days of labor.
- The ancient Mediterranean practice was to build the outer hull first, ribs afterward.
