Today in class we really went deep into the meaning of situation. Situation is when you a place to find another place. You can use situation to find unfamiliar places using familiar ones. Situation can also hep you understand the importance of a place. If a place is near other important places you could infer that the place that you are looking for is important.  Situation also helps us understand the importance of a place. This is because they are accessible by other places. We can use situation to tell and explane to people about trade. Most things that we as U.S. citizens buy are made in other countries. This is because in other countries it cost much less to produce produces. Why is this important? because if these countries are accessible we can use them to make more money in the U.S. Situation is a great tool for showing people where places are and I plan to use it in the future as I am using it now.

Yesterday we went over the definitions of the different types of  characteristic in a site. Some characteristics are water sources, topography, soil, and vegetation are just some of the characteristic. All of these things add up to make a site. Today we talked about situation which is the other part of our lesson. Situation is the location of place relative to other places around it. Situation helps use understand the importance of a place vs the places around it. We also talked about how humans can can an area depending on what they want in their site. These characteristics of sites are very important because it determines where people settle. For example Manhattan is twice as large now as it was in 1629. More people started to immigrate into the U.S. so the demand for more living space was very high. The people of Manhattan had no more space available so they created space. They did this by sinking ships and dumping garbage on the edges of Manhattan and then covering it with soi...

Today in human geo we went over some main points about "Site and Situation" First off what is a site? A site is a physical characteristic of a place. A sub topic for site and situation is "Water Sources. " Some water sources could be a lake, river, or ocean, etc. What are these water sources used for? In most places they are used to survive. For example a river could be used to get clean drinking water and the ocean could be used to fish out of so you have food. The next subtopic that we covered was "Topography" This is the level of elevation in area. An example of this would be like a topographical map showing the mountains. Another sub topic that we went over  is "Soil." Soil determines how ell a areas agriculture economy does. It the soil is rich then you will be able to grow more food and the food will come out better. The last sub topic we covered was "Vegetation." This is how densely populated and area is with plants and trees an...

Today in class we talked mostly about North Korea vs the United States. We talked about how North Korea is such a poor country consumed by poverty but they have tons of money to spend on making nuclear bombs. North Korea's leader "Kim Jong Un" Obviously is more important about having other nations fear or recognized them as a power status on the map then helping his own people. We are nearly at war with North Korea and Mr. Shick asked us how we would go about the conflicted between us and North Korea. Some of us said that we would bomb the "region." Then Mr. Shick asked us why that would not be a good plan. Then he explained that if we bombed on place it would spread and not just stay in the country that we bombed. This showed that the first and best plan right now would be to go and try to talk it out.

To day in human geo class these were my notes. Each place on earth is in some respects unique and in other ways similar to other places. The interplay between the uniqueness of each place and the similarities of places lies at heart of geographic questions about why things are the way that they are.Two basic concepts help geographers explain why every point on earth is in some way unique depending on place and region. The difference between the two concepts is partly a matter of scale. A place is a point while a region is is and area. These notes taught me a lot and i had never looked at the words place and region and said " those are two different things. Now i know more about places and regions thanks to Mr. Shick.

To day we talked about maps and routines. We covered our routines on a daily basis like waking up and shower or brushing our teeth and eating breakfast. We also got our test back today. I was very excited because I got a 96 and that is a very good grade. I am so happy that iI am doing well in this class but its probably because I really enjoy Mr. Shicks human geo class. It is my favorite class not because its human geo but because its Mr. Shicks class. Mr. Shick is my favorite teachers because he is always so passionate about what he does. If Mr. Shick does something he always does it to the best of his ability even if he doesn't like it. I really appreciate this because it helps me learn his class better and so i will also do better in his class. We also talk about how we view the world and the countries in it by the size of them.  Also we covered how personally prejudice we are to our own country. Mr. Shick showed up a short clip of a tv weather man using a map of America to sho...

Today we started a new lesson in human geography. We will be talking about three main points. Why is each point on earth different, Why are places similar, And why are some actions unsustainable. We also started talking about regions. Regions are highly contested yet important concepts in human geo and can be studied as they relate to space, place, and locations. Regions allow us to generalize about common characteristics so we can better group them. A formal region is an area with a high level of consistency in a certain cultural or physical attribute. Formal regions are uniform or homogenous areas where everyone in that area or region share common attribute traits like language or political systems. Formal regions are usually the outline to a political or economic area. Today was the start of human geo in the eyes of Mr. Shick as he has told us that the class only gets harder from here. I actually excited to move on in the class and i think that i will do very well this year.

Test day blog

Today was our first human geography quiz. I studied for it a little bit last night and a little bit at lunch. The reason that I didn't study as much as I usually would have is because I knew the material very well because I paid a lot of attention to it in class when we watch the slide how on Garcia and ancient Greece. I honestly feel that I got a one hundred or a 96 out of one hundred. There was one question I was a little questionable about but other than that I knew everything by heart. I hope that I do very well on this test because I have a 96 in your class and I would like to keep it that way. Mr. Shick is by far my favorite teacher because he is funny and very passionate about what he does. To be honest i was a little skeptical about you when I had my first class with you. You were very loud and enthusiastic and sometimes I am to quick to judge. When I got to know you I was very happy. I actually look forward to coming to your class everyday. I hope that we have a great yea...

Today we reviewed the slide show facts about "A message to Garcia and Socrates." Tomorrow is our test and today was a review of what we knew.  to start us off we coved Socrates and Ancient Greece.  Socrates was a philosopher and considered the father of western civilization. He worked as a stonemason when he was younger and fought in the Peloponnesian war. Socrates taught the younger and said "I can never teach anyone anything only make them think." He was a wise man in the eyes of most but some didn't like him. Because some didn't like him, He was charged with corrupting the youth and not believing in the gods of the state. Socrates trial involved five hundred jurors to make a decision whether he lived or died. When socrates came up to defend himself he did not take the approach that would save his life but would end it. Socrates said " I am just a man doing my job and in fact you should be rewarding me with free dinners for life rather then punishing...

Today in class we went over the things that we learned in yesterdays slide. Yesterday we watched a first off we learned a little bit about socrates. Socrates was a philosopher and considered the father of western philosophy. When he was young he was a stonemason and also fought in the peloponisian war. Socrates always said " i could never teach anyone anything on make them think. We also went over how democracy relates to excellence. We(the class) said that when a country has a democracy it will be excellent. Take the untied states for example. We are a democracy and we are the best country in the world because we are so diverse and have our own options.  We also learned about the death of socrates and his trial. Socrates was charged with "corrupting the youth" and "Not believing in the gods of the state. Socrates trial was in the public and there were five hundred jurors there. Socrates was found guilty and was put to death by poison hemlock. Next we learned about...

Today in Mr. Shicks class we went over many different vocabulary terms today. The first term we learned was agora. This is a public area for assemblies and markets. The second term we learned was polis. this is a city state in ancient greece especially as considered in its ideal form for philosophical purposes. the third term is how the year of 508 bc was important to the ancient greece people. This is the year that greece established a democracy. Next we learned about Socrates. He was a greek philosopher and was the father of western philosophy. He was also a stonemason when he was young and also fought in the peloponisain war. Next we learned about the death of Socrates. Socrates was put on trail for corrupting the young and refusing to recognize the gods of the state. He was found guilty and sentenced to death buy poison. Last by not least is socratic method. This states  that using common sense of our day offers us the greatest potential for self understanding and human excell...

Today in class we watched a slide show on the message to Garcia and the many details about it. Here are some things I learned today in class.Elbert Hubbard was the author of The message to Garcia. He published this essay in 1899. The essay became very popular and sold over forty million copies. The essay was also translated into thirty seven languages. The essay was also made into a movie twice once in 1916 and once in 1936. Take a message to Garcia was also a slag term for " take the initiative" Here are some basics fact about the real situation of Garcia. It took place during the spanish american war. Garcia was a revolutionary seeking cuban independence from spain. rowan was a army officer who graduated from west point in the class of 1881.The ancient greek work for excellence is Arete'. The highest human potential is knowledge of knowledge. These are just some of the many things that I learned about Garcia and I now have a much better understanding of "A message...

THe message to Garcia ad my five point plan

My interpretation of a message to Garcia In the message to Garcia the narrator talks about a man named Garcia and how no one could reach him through mail or through telegraph. The President needed someone to take a letter and physically deliver this message to Garcia. This was no ordinary task, Garcia was hiding out in the mountains of Cuba so it would not be easy to find him. The President would need someone special with a good work ethic and someone who doesn't quit because the job is hard. He needs a man who will give it his all and strive for greatness so that Garcia will for sure receive this message.  Someone suggested a man by the name of Rowan and said " if anyone can find Garcia its Rowan."  The President asked Rowan to deliver this message to the man who lives in the mountains of Cuba. This man was different for most men challenged with a task. He asked no questions and did the task as he was told.  After four day of sailing in an open boat Rowan arrived at...
