Today in class we watched a crash course and the guy in the video was talking about philosophy. The guy in the video focused on ethics and aesthetics. We also talked about what we looked like before we were born or if we even existed before we were born. Christians believe that we live forever after we die so why couldn't we believe that we existed before we were born. Mr. Schick told us a story today about a homeless man and it really changed how I view them as people. Never judge a book by its cover. I know you have heard the phrase before and it was really the theme of the story Mr. Schick told us. This homeless man was out in the cold and Mr. Schick invited him into a bagel shop so he could get a bite to eat. While they were in the shop they sat down to eat. Everyone near them flocked away from them in a disgusted way. This is extremely sad that people judge someone off of looks and the is completely wrong. I think that we need to be more ope...

Today in human geo we watched a video of a guy who studied philosophy. He knew his stuff and I learned a lot of stuff about philosophy and what it is. The guy asked a lot of questions about life and what it is. Heres some notes I took. Plato had a school called the academy It was the first university ever Philosophy came to be a way of thinking about questions. What is the nature of reality Is the world just made up of matter and energy Do I have a soul Meta physics= Branch of philosophy the studied nature of reality Epistemology= studied nature and scope of knowledge

Today in class we got into groups of four and decided what we would be working on for our ancient Greece project. My group is Marcus, Riche, Jimmy. We decided to pick the trireme for our project because it looks cool to build and we thought it would be one of the more fun subjects to do our project on. So far we have a couple notes on the trireme from https://www.ancient.eu/trireme/. Here are the notes we have so far. The Greek trireme was referred to as a key to sea power for the ancient Greeks. Triremes were easy to maneuver and built for speed with three rows of oars on each side and one man for every war With it punishing steel front and its three levels of rowers, the Trireme was a weapon like no other. The Trireme Was invented by the Ancient Phoenicians but adopted into Athens. Athens had the strongest Navy in the Aegean sea and crushed its opponents. We decided to build a model of the trireme but we are gonna try to make one bigger then the one Mr.Schick ...

Today in western civ we started a new power point and its focuse was on the philosofers. We only got through three of them but still learned a lot about each. First off is Socrates, the greatest of all philosofers.  He looked to science and logic to find answers about stuff that was happening around him and no the gods. The socratic method fostered critical thinking and invovled useing question to make you express your opion.Socrates was charged with curruption of the youth and impeity. He was convicted guilty and was put to death by poison hemlock. Next up is plato the student of Socrates. Plato wrote a book called Apologie and it was the story of Socrates trial. He wrote all about socrates teahings. Last but not least is Aristotle. He was a student of plato and helped foster the idea of Athens as a intelegence destination. He also tutored alexander the great and wrote extensivly about many subjects. Aristotle basically created the first internent.

Today in western civ a couple people had to finish up their test and the rest of us had to fish our notes on "Democracy and Greece's golden age." I learned a lot of stuff in this little section but all the stuff on the philosopher I pretty much knew just because I learned about them in my old school. Here are some of the notes that I took. Pericles was a skillful politician, an inspirational speaker, and a respected general Pericles held on to popular support for over 32 years. After the defeat of the Persians, Athens helped organize the Delian league which in today's world is the United Nations but for an ancient civilization. Athens had an incredibly strong navy Pericles used the money from the Delian League to glorify Athens and make it look like an empire Art and Architecture were one of the biggest parts of making Athens look like an empire. Greeks invented Drama as an art form and wrote two types: Comedy and Tradagy. The Peloponnesian war ...

valentines day

Today in class we reviewed all the materials and studied for the test. I think that I am going to do well on the test on Friday because I have already covered a lot of the material in 8th grade. I need to do well on this test because I have an 84 in the class.  To me, that is not a good grade and I really need to bring my grade up. We went over stuff like the Greek Diet and the wars the happened in Greece. We also talked about the different landmarks in Greece and the terrain and how it affected their culture. I hope to do well on it because I need to bring my grade up.

2/13/18

To in class, we got to have a study period for out test that will be on Friday. The test will be on all of what we have learned about ancient Greece. Some things that we have learned about ancient Greece is their diet, terrain, war, Gods, etc. The diet in ancient Greece had olives and bread and other stuff. The terrain in ancient Greece was very difficult and super mountainous which made it very hard to grow food. This limited the options for what could grow in Greece because only 20% of the land there was arable. The Greeks were involved in a lot of wars including the Persian war. The Persians were a very strong army and at one point took over Athens because the people of Athens fleed their own town because of the war. Gods were one of the biggest known things to help Greece out. In ancient Greek myths, the Greeks actually talk about how they had a relationship with their Gods and how their gods actually fought in battles with them. Thank you for ...

Today in class we continued the power point and learned about the many wars that happened in Greece and how they were fought. We mainly focused on the Persian war. The Greeks vs The Persian. We went over the characteristic of both sides. The Greeks fought to preserve their democracy it was considered an honor to fight in battle and also fought for their land. The Persians, on the other hand, were a huge empire and has great amounts of people but being a soldier was considered a job rather than a duty in Persia. The Greeks were very much a hand to hand combat type of group. The Persians were also a hand to hand combat group but the one difference was that they had archers which could be lethal for 200 yards away.

2/8/18

Today in western civ we read pages 127-133 in our textbook and took notes on it. we learned about basically the same things that mister shock had been talking about in his power point but in greater detail. One this that went into a lot more detail was the different wars. The book talks about the war and the Persian war. The book also talks about the army of Sparta. The army of Sparta wasn't the biggest people ever but they had so many people that they usually won battles that they shouldn't have.  Other than that it was the exact same thing that we had talked about in class. It talks about the steps toward democracy.

2/6/18

Today in class we continued the power point and talked about the Greek gods and how they were involved with the greek community. In the ancient myths of Greece, Gods got involved with the people of Greece and actually are said to have helped them in battle. It is also said that some gods would get involved with humans and their offspring were called demigods. Here are some of the Gods that I learned about. Zeus: God of heaven and earth, father of Athena, god of the sky, weather, law, order, and justice. Athena: Goddess of wisdom, skill, warfare, battle strategy, and crafts. Athens was named after her and there are still statues of her there today.

Today in human geo we continued to work on our group assignment. So far it has come out very good and I feel that we will get a good grade on it. Mr. Schick looked over it very quickly and gave us a couple of things that would make our project even better then it already was. We added a couple things to our project and also added some pictures and added some captions to make our project look just like a textbook.Other then that today was a normal day in westernciv.

2/1/18

today we got back our pop quizzes and I did very well. I got a 90 on it and that is like one of the best grades I have ever got on a pop quiz. Other than that we got an essay to write on Ancient Greece. There were five categories and five groups so that each group would get one part of the essay. My group got government and I am happy with that because it was a part of ancient Greece that I am familiar with because I learned about it in 8th grade So far we have about a page and it's looking nice. Here is a little bit of our essay: " Government in Greece has changed drastically throughout its history and these changes in government have determined Greece's fate throughout history. A new form of government was born in Greece thousands of years ago, before Christ’s birth, and has influenced countries all around the world to adopt that same system. " So far everything is looking good and I'm having a good time in western civ.
